Tonight WWE returns to perform a SmackDown show in which Brock Lesnar will be face to face with Roman Reigns after leaving Day 1 as the new WWE Champion. The first episode of SmackDown of the year begins with Roman Reigns coming out to the ring already recovered from COVID-19. He starts by saying that in a week that he has missed everything has changed and that during this confined time there are many things that he has wanted to do and that he has wanted to see many people, except for two people who he does not want to see again: Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. At that moment they both interrupt Reigns. The WWE Champion tells Reigns to recognize him and continues saying that last Saturday he got what he wanted and that it is time to give the public what they want, so he challenges him to a Title vs. Qualification. Reigns say it’s a good idea, but since it’s not his idea and they’re on his show, they’ll do whatever he wants and he says he doesn’t do business with trash like Paul Heyman. At that moment Heyman interrupts ‘The Tribal Chief’ and tells him that he took care of him for a long time, Lesnar tells him to shut up. When Reigns tells him not to talk to him like this, Lesnar threatens him, so Heyman asks him to relax, Roman takes advantage of the situation to apply a Superman Punch and leave the ring.
WWE Smackdown Results January 7
Sami Zayn is backstage with Johnny Knoxville, who insists on his desire to participate in the Royal Rumble Match, Zayn tells him that he is not qualified and that he has to prove something yet, after that Zayn enters the ring to face Rick Boogs.
- Rick Boogs gets the victory with a Roll-Up.
Following the match, Johnny Knoxville threw Sami out of the ring over the third rope and it was announced that Knoxville will be part of this year’s Royal Rumble Match.
Charlotte Flair enters the ring and talks about the importance of the Royal Rumble Match for women and announces the first participants, among which are names such as Rhea Ripley, Summer Rae, Nikki, and Brie Bella, Mickie James, or Charlotte Flair herself, among others Names. At that moment Naomi enters to attack Charlotte and challenge her to a fight, so a fight is agreed upon among others.
- Charlotte Flair takes the victory after applying a Natural Selection.
Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss enter the ring for a new segment of Happy Talk. Corbin says he thought that after attacking him on WWE Day 1 he thought Drew McIntyre would be out for time. He introduces him as a guest but Madcap Moss enters disguised as Drew. After that, The Viking Raiders break in, and a fight is agreed between both teams.
- Madcap Moss achieves victory for his team.
The New Day enters the ring to face The Usos in a Street Fight for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
- The Usos take the victory after applying the 3D.
The show ends with Seth Freakin’ Rollins appearing before Roman Reigns, so the two will meet at Royal Rumble 2022.
